Fitness Update

For those of you who made New Year’s Resolutions to exercise more and to get in shape – how are you doing? Unfortunately, I have hurt my back and have had to cease my strenuous exercise. The girls, however, are faithfully continuing with the Chalean Extreme from Beachbody. I was able to finish going through the three circuits a second time and had begun the maintenance phase which involves mixing all three circuits together for added muscle confusion.

In Staying Fit – The Never Ending Battle, I gave a detailed review of the Chalean Extreme. I look forward to picking back up with a complete exercise program – I miss the “happy hormones” (endorphins) that regular exercise releases! For now, though, I must be content with walking as permitted and stretching.

Hopefully, it will not be too long and I will be back to normal! I am looking forward to trying some of BeachBodies other programs such as the P90X, the 10 Minute Trainer and Hip Hop Abs.

Just Wait, It'll Change!

People have told us repeatedly that if you do not like the weather here in west Texas, “just wait, it will change”. Well, it is true! On Wednesday, we had 60+ degree weather and the children were wanting to wear shorts. On Thursday, well, see for yourself…

Post Featured!

Dave from PhilFAQS featured a review I wrote on Educator.com today. He had written previously to say that hopefully it would help answer questions from people living in the Phillipines who desire to homeschool their children. I hope it helps!

As the homeschooling mom of 10 (only 8 are still at home), I know homeschooling can be intimidating at first. I can say from personal experience that it has been well worth the challenge. It has helped prepare our children academically for college as well as socially. In my opinion, homeschooling has helped build the wonderful relationships we experience as a family.

I Am Back!

I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year’s celebration. The New Year found us travelling to Georgia to visit parents and then to our house near Mobile, Alabama. The section of interstate we were on as the New Year rang in was in the middle of no where – so, we missed the fireworks! To make matters worse, a stomach bug entered the family as we drove cross country. What started with one sick child quickly spread through each family member – the dominoe effect. John and I did not get it until Columbus, Ga. while visiting his parents. I will not give the “barfing” details but I am afraid we have unwillingly infected people from Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, and Georgia with a not so pleasant “bug”. To all who were in our path – I am sorry! Had we known what was coming, we would have delayed our trip. Even though it only lasted about 24 hours, with a family of 10, in a van, it seemed much longer than it actually was!

By the time we made it to Alabama, we were at least through with the worst of the illness. Thankfully, we found our house in good shape and did the necessary maintenance – wash the house, rake the yard, cut the grass, trim hedges… After the 17 hour trip back to west TX, during which we hit several icy patches, it is good to be back. I am looking forward to the new year and what exciting things are in store for us!
