Hurry Up is the new, fast paced, dice game from Random Line. Players compete to get the highest score but the clock is ticking so you better Hurry Up! Each challenge must be completed in 30 seconds. If you make it in the alloted 30 seconds, you not only get the challenge points but also add up the total of your dice for additional points. What happens if you don’t make it in 30 seconds? Culinary School – what comes to mind with those words? Le Cordon Bleu? World renown chefs? Julia Childs? The movie – Julia and Julie? Unattainable?
Culinary Professor, Louis Eguaras from the California School of Culinary Arts, Le Cordon Bleu Program, a former White House chef who as cooked for foreign dignitaries as well as many celebrities, brings his knowledge to you. In his very interesting book, 101 Things I Learned in Culinary School, tips from his years of experience hold the reader captive – 101 tips to be precise! Not only is this intriguing but also educational!
Here is a quiz from the tips in 101 Things I Learned in Culinary School:
- In Kitchen Lingo what do the following mean: “In The Weeds”? ”Make it Cry”? “Down the Hudson”? “Check the Score”?
- Rate the sales of the following cookbooks in order: “The Joy of Cooking”, “Better Homes and Gardens” and “Betty Crocker’s Cookbook”.
- What is the most popular meat in the world?
- Why is the chef’s jacket reversible and double breasted?
- What is the difference between how cookware and bakeware is measured?
The answers to these questions are just a few of the interesting tips I learned from reading this book. We had a family quiz and my husband was able to rate the sales of the cookbooks and several others figured out what “Make It Cry” meant! I would never have guessed what the most popular meat in the world is! I now also know how to properly hold a knife!
You May Purchase It! “101 Things I Learned in Culinary School” may be purchased at local bookstores for $15 – $18.

Tropical Traditions, a name trusted to provide quality Coconut Oil, also has high quality, certified USDA organic, palm oil. Palm Oil is a mixture of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, with most of the unsaturated fat being monounsaturated fat. Palm shortening is palm oil that has some of its unsaturated fats removed, giving it a very firm texture, and high melting point. It is NOT hydrogenised, and contains NO trans fats! It is great for deep-fat frying and baking, and is not prone to rancidity. Since it has been separated from some of the unsaturated portion of the oil, it is colorless and odorless, and will not affect the taste of foods like Virgin Palm Oil does.
Palm oil is not widely used any longer in the US but is the most heavily consumed dietary oil in the world after soybean oil. Most of the world’s soybean oil is consumed in the US.
“Palm oil traditionally has been used for baking, shortenings, margarines and deep fat frying, as it is shelf stable with a high melting point and does NOT require hydrogenation. Therefore, it contains no trans fatty acids. Saturated fats, such as tropical oils like palm and coconut, as well as butter, have traditionally been considered healthy fats and oils. In modern history, commercial interests have condemned saturated fats and replaced them in the American diet with polyunsaturated fats that are hydrogenised and contain trans fatty acids, which most people now consider harmful. These trans fatty acids were banned in some European countries as early as 2004, and food label laws in the US just forced manufacturers to list trans fats in their products last year. Some cities in the US are now banning trans fats in restaurants as well.”
I am enjoying using the Tropical Traditions Palm Shortening in our whole wheat biscuits. While the shortening itself has no taste, it seems to accentuate the nutty flavor of the fresh ground whole wheat flour. They have great recipes at FreeCoconutRecipes.com
You May Purchase It! At Tropical Traditions.com you may purchase 1 gallon for $35.75.
You May Win It! I am pleased to offer one Dimes2Vines readers a gallon of Palm Shortening! This giveaway will end on May 29, 2010 at 11:59pm CST and is open to all US residents. Mandatory Entry Question - According to the book, how often do men’s fashions change? Answer: Every few centuries. Before the modern era, men’s and women’s fashions changed with similar frequency. The tailored man’s suit emerged in the 19th century and has changed very little since then.
*******************************
101 Things I Learned in Fashion School is a book written by Alfredo Cabrera. Alfredo is a fashion designer, teacher and illustrator who has taught and served as critic at Parsons The New School for Design, Fashion Institute of Technology, Pratt Institute and the Altos de Chavon School of Design.
The world of fashion is brought to vivid life with 101 introductory lessons on such topics as how a designer anticipates cultural trends and “sees” the fashion consumer, the workings of the fashion calendar, the ways a designer collection is conceived, the manufacture of fabric, fashion illustration, and more.
Some of the interesting tips I learned include the fact that satin is a weave, not a fabric, taking measurements with ease, why jeans have maintained there appeal and who does what in the fashion industry – from the fashion designer to the sample-hand and machine operator.
You May Purchase It! 101Things I Learned in Fashion School may be purchased at local bookstores for $15-$18.

Squiggle On-The-Go by Random Line. Have you ever heard of it? I had not until … I had this review/ giveaway opportunity. RandomLine creates mind-exercising games and activity pads that encourage children, as well as, adults to be creative.
What is a Squiggle? A squiggle is a random line – squiggly, wiggly or wavy – the start of something. The object is to transform the squiggly line, using your imagination, into the shape determined by the spin of the wheel.
My children love it! It is like a doodling pad in the form of a game! We were sent a Barnyard Squiggle pad but they also carry an Ocean, Outdoors, Safari, Bugs and many other On-The-Go Pads. They even have an educational series which includes the alphabet, shapes and colors. There is a Squiggle On-The-Go Pad to interest all children (and adults).
Squiggle On-The-Go is a pad of paper with a different squiggly line on each piece of paper. The pad is backed with a colorful cardboard backing that contains a pencil and a wheel to spin, which tells you what to draw. The wheel for the Barnyard On-The-Go has different animals on it. While it is designed for ages 4 and up, I found it more appropriate for ages 7 and up. (Little boys just must not be quite as creative as little girls!). Actually, in our family, my husband is better at it than the rest of us!
You May Purchase It! At RandomLine.com you may purchase the Squiggle On-The-Go Pads for $4.99-$14.99. You can also find a store near you under the “Where to Buy” tab.
You May Win It! I am pleased to offer one Dimes2Vines reader a Squiggle On-The-Go Pad of your choice! This giveaway will end on May 15, 2010 at 11:59pm CST and is open to all US residents. Everyone is going “green” and Rachel at I Green Mommy is no exception. She is a stay at home mom who makes handcrafted/handmade products which are centered around the “green” theme. She uses recycled, reused, and scrap items to make her products which she sell at her I Green Mommy esty shop.
While she will not say she “never” buys any supplies, she tries to limit her purchased items and instead be creative with what is on hand. Because of this, many of her items are one of a kind! Products on sale at her etsy shop now include: facial cleansing pads, facial scubby pads, eco lunch box kit, water resistent eco lunch kit, aprons, little girl sundresses, snack baggie sets, coupon keepers, eco friendly reusable pad to fit a swiffer for dusting and mopping, reusable grocery totes and much more! Take a minute to visit and see all her creative products.
Rachel made a matching mother/daughter apron set for me in blue, trimmed with flowered ruffles. Rachel purposely gave them a rough/unfinished look by serging the edges, since she did not have the bias edging to match (it fits with her “green” theme!). One of my favorite things about the child’s apron is the elastic in the neck piece which attaches with velcro. The velcro closure is so much easier that tying! This velcro, tie, or one size fits all slip over neckband is available upon request. She has been kind enough to offer one of my readers a set!
You May Purchase It! These are available at I Green Mommy etsy shop for approximately $22.

Dating ideas – do you have any?
Earlier in Date your Man 2, I mentioned that my husband and I watch movies together. This is after the children are in bed and often by candlelight. This is special time for us to be together. Whether we just “veg” in front of a fun and frivolous movie or watch a more thought provoking movie, we enjoy this time together.
I have compiled a list of five movies that are especially meaningful. I have each linked to amazon.com of which I am an affiliate. While I will make a small amount of each sale when you purchase anything from amazon through my site, you may be able to find these less expensive at other stores.
**Please note: These movies are “mommy/daddy” movies and have adult content which our children are not allowed to view.**

“The Story of Us” With Bruce Willis and Michelle Pfeiffer, this is probably our favorite. It is extremely realistic in showing the consequences of holding grudges, not forgiving and taking relationships for granted. It also show that reconciliation even in extreme circumstances is possible. This movie does contain profanity and crude language.

“Late for Dinner” With Brian Wimmer and Peter Berg, this is a light-hearted movie and very enjoyable. While the plot is unrealistic, it shows that extenuating circumstances are possible. Another lesson is that there are always two sides to every story.

“Return to Me” With David Duchovney and Minnie Driver this is a very emotive movie! It shows how fragile life, as well as, our relationships are. It has encouraged us to plan for tomorrow while living for today.

“The Family Man” With Nicholas Cage and Tea Leoni this movie shows choices completely opposite to the ones we have chosen. It made us sympathetic to people like the main character who made choices out of ignorance or misinformation. People who, when shown differently, desired to change.

“For Richer For Poorer” With Tim Allen and Kirstey Alley this movie provides another example of people who have made wrong choices. When confronted with a different way of life, they see the shallowness of their own life and values.

T-shirts – who doesn’t love them! They are comfortable, easy to care for and can be so funny. SnorgTees started as a company in May of 2004 by a group of friends realizing they were not cut our for “real” jobs! Narrowing their options down to either becoming international jewel thieves or internet t-shirt tycoons, they decided on the t-shirts. Why? It was the middle of the summer and they could not find enough ski masks! I think they made a great decision!
Most of their designs are created by employees but many are also sent by customers. So, if you have an idea and would like to see it on a t-shirt – send it to them! They have many designs available and some are so funny – I love looking through them all! They have them in men’s, women’s and children’s sizes and even carry hoodies.
I really like the “If Life Gives You Lemons – Keep Them – They are Free” t-shirt I was sent – because, you can always make lemonade! Printed on 100% cotton fabric, the t-shirt itself is of good quality fabric and is a great weight. I will definitely be using these for some gift items! But, shhhh, don’t tell my family!

You May Purchase It! At SnorgTees the average t-shirt is $18.95.
You May Win It! I am pleased to offer one Dimes2Vines readers a SnorgTee of their choice! This giveaway will end on April 17, 2010 at 11:59pm CST and is open to all US residents. Blogging resources are so many and varied! It is refreshing to find a blog, focusing on marketing, run by a stay at home mom, being creative in producing income, while helping others. Scarlet from Moms Wear Your Tees is one of those ladies.
Increasing our blog readership is what we all desire – but how? One of the best ways to increase your blog readership is through search engines – people finding your blog because they are looking for something that you are offering. Links to your blog are the primary way search engines rank your site. Links, therefore, are needed to get to and stay on top of the search engines results. Scarlet helps get you those links to your blog through the use of social media marketing. She has several avenues of advertising to help you get the much coveted links:
- She writes about your blog and features it on her Moms Wear Your Tees Blog with your website links.
- She posts on Twitter, Facebook, My Space, Yahoo groups, CafeMom groups
- You also get a permanent link through your logo posting on the “client calender” page
- Optional: If you have a company tee, she will wear it all day and post a picture of her in it to the different social media postings to give a visual to go along with the post.
While this is a new company, started in December of 2009, Scarlet is not new to marketing. Leaving a career managing such stores as Ann Taylor Loft, Express and Macy’s, she is now a stay at home mom getting creative with income earning.
I don’t know about you, but I am juggling being the mom of a large family and the responsibilities that entails, blogging and now being an independent stylist with Stella & Dot, so I am finding it difficult to do much marketing on my own. That is the beauty of Moms Wear Your Tees – Scarlet does it for you and since it is an endorsement by another mom, it appears less like advertising than if I did it myself! The prices of being featured by Scarlet vary according to the month you select and are priced per day.
I was given a day of social media website promotion through Moms Wear Your Tees for the review but no other compensation was
given.
The opinions expressed are my own.

How to Never Look Fat Again – is it possible without dieting?
We have all heard of high-fat, low-fat and no-fat foods! But, how about applying those same terms to the clothes you wear? Charla Krupp, author of “How to Never Look Fat Again” has done just that. All women want to look thinner and more stylish, and now you can. Charla recommends a healthy lifestyle and regular exercise but also teaches you how to determine if an item of clothing is fattening or not. It is as easy as steering clear of high-fat clothes – those which make you look flabby and frumpy – and wear no-fat as often as possible. You can look thinner by tonight!
“How to Never Look Fat Again” covers such topics as:
- Easy ways to hide arm flap, a big bust, a muffin top, back fat, a big belly, a big booty, thunder thighs, heavy calves…
- High fat fabric colors and styles which make you look fat and those which melt the pounds away.
- Solutions for workout gear, evening wear and swimsuits.
- Charla’s “Brilliant Buys” and a list of products to avoid.
Charla Krup is a nationally known style expert who appeared for ten years on the Today show. She is a contributing editor to “People: Style Watch” and was formerly beauty director at “Glamour”, a senior editor at “In Style” and a fashion columnist at “More”. Her credentials are extensive and impressive!
My daughters and I have thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is filled with information which we found to be very helpful. Charla’s advise is practical and makes sense when we began looking at our wardrobes. It is true that if you must ask “Does this make me look fat?” you already know the answer! I would recommend this book to everyone!

About Me
God has amazingly blessed me, Dina-Marie, with a wonderful husband and 10 beautiful children. Moving from our "secure" life in Alabama to the "exciting" life of starting a vineyard in west Texas has been challenging to say the least. I have had the opportunity to take a crash course in frugal living and become a real farm girl - complete with milk cow and chickens. I have learned the importance of health from the inside out, "traditional" cooking and cod liver oil!
I hope to encourage you to make the most of where you are and what you have.
